NEW YORK (AP) — Steve Ballmer is the richest sports team owner in the U.S. with a net worth of $21.6 billion.

Forbes announced Tuesday the Los Angeles Clippers owner and former Microsoft CEO earned that distinction for the second straight year. He's 21st overall on the Forbes ranking of the 400 richest Americans.

Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen is second with a net worth of $17.8 billion. He's followed by Los Angeles Kings owner and Lakers minority owner Philip Anschutz at $10.9 billion.

Miami Heat owner Micky Arison is next at $7.7 billion. Stanley Kroenke, who owns the St. Louis Rams, Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets, rounds out the top five at $7.6 billion.

Most owners made their money outside sports, and TV money has helped the soaring value of their franchises.
