LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Former NBA dunk champion Dee Brown finally got a chance to see his daughter Lexie play.
The Sacramento Kings assistant coach caught the Maryland freshman's game against Louisville on Tuesday night. She put on quite the show for her dad, scoring 20 points, including hitting nine of 10 free throws in the Terrapins 76-73 victory that got them to the Final Four. She earned All-Regional honors.
"She's achieved so many things that I never achieved as a high school player or as a college player," Brown said. "She's really out of my shadow. It's just been great."
Kings coach Mike Malone allowed Brown to miss Sacramento's game against New Orleans on Monday night
"I missed the New Orleans game because I wanted to get here and spend time with her a little before the game," Dee Brown said. "Just talk basketball, be a Dad and enjoy her and tell her how proud I was. I'll fly out (Wednesday), back to Sacramento. We play the Lakers."
Brown, who spent 12 seasons in the NBA and won the 1991 slam dunk title, said it was the first time he's seen his daughter play in person this season. He doesn't know if his schedule will allow him to be in Nashville on Sunday when Lexie's Terrapins face undefeated Notre Dame.
"It's going to be hard to get another pass but if I do, I'll be there. If not, we'll have enough family support to be there for her."
