DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The NCAA men's basketball tournament starts this evening with a pair of first round games in Dayton, Ohio. The first game of the night has Albany playing Mount St. Mary's while in the nightcap North Carolina State goes up against the Xavier Musketeers.

UNDATED (AP) — Play in the NIT, the nation's oldest postseason college basketball tournament, starts tonight. A total of nine games are on the agenda with the tournament coming to an end Thursday, April 3, in New York's Madison Square Garden.

NEW YORK (AP) — Phil Jackson makes his return to the New York Knicks today. Not as the coach but as the man in charge of the entire operation. Jackson starred for the New York team in the 1970's and later led the Bulls to six NBA titles and the Lakers to five more.

UNDATED (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers continued their slide into the history books with another loss last night. That's 21 straight, which is a team record. The league record for futility is 26 straight defeats by the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers. The Sixers were beaten last night by the Pacers, 99-90.

UNDATED (AP) — The conference leaders in the NHL improved their position in the standings last night. In the West, the Blues became the first team this year to break 100 points with a 3-1 win over Winnipeg. The Blues top the Ducks and Sharks by four points. In the East, the Bruins now lead Pittsburgh by five points as they won their ninth straight last night, 4-1, over Vancouver.
