ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have put rookie cornerback Alex Carter on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

Detroit made the move Monday, three days before hosting the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions placed their third-round pick from Stanford on short-term injured reserve in September. They were holding out hope Carter would be able to come back and play this season because they recently put two cornerbacks, Rashean Mathis and Josh Wilson, on injured reserve.

Carter skipped his senior season to enter the NFL draft. His father, Tom, played at Notre Dame and was a first-round draft pick by Washington in 1993.
