The struggle for adequate food hits the most vulnerable members of our community, our children. Neighborhood Connection, in St. George, helps children who receive free or reduced-cost meals at school by providing them with food to take home over the weekends. Without help, most of these kids struggle to access the food they need to sustain them until they can return on Monday to their school meal program. A weekend of hunger leaves kids distracted and studies have shown that chronic hunger creates irritability, physical weakness, fatigue, and emotional stress. Neighborhood Connection provides meals for the weekend so they can return to school ready to learn. They believe no child should go hungry. Each school year members of the community come out to place food packs in student backpacks as they head home. You can get involved by donating money or food items, help to pack food bags during the school year, or simply contact them to find out their current needs. SelectHealth recognizes the compassionate service provided by Neighborhood Connection as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
