SANPETE COUNTY — For those who were late applying for an archery elk permit, the Division of Wildlife Resources announced Thursday that there is still a chance to hunt an elk in Utah this fall.
The general archery elk hunt begins Saturday and DWR officials said the permits for Utah’s general archery bull elk hunt are not limited in number. Archery hunters can get a permit between now and the end of the Sanpete Valley extended archery elk hunt on Dec. 31, according to a DWR news release.
Each hunter with a permit can take only one elk — either a bull or cow — during the general archery elk hunt, DWR officials said. DWR big game coordinator, Justin Shannon, said the elk are doing really well in Utah this year and there are currently more than 80,000 elk throughout the state.
“Taking an elk with a bow and arrow is a challenge, but plenty of elk are out there to pursue,” Shannon said in a news release.
