NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, England — Two British surfers caught more than big waves when a seal pup jumped on their boards Monday.
Matt Stanley and Andrew Flounders were surfing near Amble in Northumberland when a little seal swam up to them and climbed on their boards, according to BBC.com. A GoPro camera on the end of the surfboard captured the moment between the surfers and seal.
“We had just been joking about the lack of seals in the sea and perhaps there might be a shark around as the water was very warm,” Flounders told the Northumberland Gazette. “Then I felt a thud against my leg. I jumped onto the board and Matty said the colour drained from my face. But the seal just leapt on board and was really, really friendly and kept following us, even out of the sea when we left.”
Video shows the seal continuing to climb onto the surfboards after sliding off, and the surfers said it hung around them for an hour, according to BBC.com.
The video was posted to YouTube Monday and as of Wednesday evening had over 2 million views.
