HERO ROAD — If curiosity killed the cat, then the kitten in this video dodged curiosity's wrath thanks to a pair of quick-thinking Texas police officers.
Last Friday, Lufkin Police Department officers Devin Trotti and Randy Stallard spotted a kitten stuck 30 feet above a tree. Before the officers arrived, one of the kitten’s siblings fell to its death, according to the department’s Facebook page.
After what happened to the first kitty, Trotti and Stallard moved quickly to prevent tragedy and save the other kitten’s life.
Body camera video shows Trotti grabbing a blanket from a patrol vehicle — the officers keep blankets in their vehicles to give to the homeless.
"Trust me, I can get that cat down," Trotti tells Stallard.
The two quickly opened the blanket and encouraged the stranded kitten to jump.
“Come on down, cat,” Trotti can be heard saying.
After a few moments of waiting and a dash of great timing, the kitten fell and landed safely into the blanket. Stallard then holds the adorable little kitty and comforts her.
“There’s more than one way to catch a cat,” Trotti jokingly says at the end of the video.
In honor of the officer whose idea helped save her life, the female kitten was named “Trotti." She was taken to an animal shelter in Lufkin where she’s now up for adoption.
It’s moments like these when we come to appreciate officers even more so. Each day, they do extraordinary things that might not get much attention. Let’s take a moment to not only enjoy this great story and video but to appreciate the kindness and heart of officers like Trotti and Stallard.
As for "Trotti," let's agree she now (or meow) has eight lives left.
