CENTERVILLE — A Davis County man narrowly survived an ATV crash when the roll bar crushed almost every bone in his face.
Though doctors told him he would likely never see again, he's slowly regaining his sight and inspiring others along the way.
Before the accident, Dustin Dickamore was an active husband and father of two young children. The September crash at Bear Lake is something his wife, Ashley often thinks about.
"One of our friends came running in and said, 'call 911,'" Ashley said.
When paramedics arrived, the outlook was grim. One of the paramedics later told her just how dire the situation was.
"I've never seen such a bad head injury in my life, but I've never seen someone as stoic as that man," Ashley said.
Dustin had shattered nearly every bone in his face, and lost all sight. He was flown to a Salt Lake hospital where doctors confirmed the diagnosis.

For four days, Dustin's world was black. He asked doctors to test his sight one more time. The right eye still detected no light, but then something happened.
"Wait, do that again," Dustin told the doctors. "I can see you."
Everyone in the room became emotional with the sudden improvement. His vision has gotten stronger with every day.
He still requires the use of a tube to receive food and his jaw is wired shut to help it heal.
Though Dustin currently uses a white board to talk to his wife and others, he wants to communicate an important message.
"Never give up no matter how bad you think it is," he wrote. "Someone else probably has it worse than you and is making it through their challenge. Just always believe."
When Dustin thinks about how far he's come since that fateful September night, he picks up his pen and writes two words.
"A miracle."
