THE COOP — The common hen is about as harmless as they come.

Point one: Chickens aren’t the sharpest tools in the farm shed when compared to other barnyard animals. (But they aren’t as dumb as you think.)

Point two: They certainly have warning calls to let the flock know there is danger, but they have no real defense mechanisms. (Unless they have an aggressive, territorial rooster watching over them, but even that is limited.)

Point three: They may have wings, but they can’t sustain flight for more than 15 seconds. (Which is the whole basis for the classic claymation film, "Chicken Run.")

Point four: Like all birds, chickens have hollow bones, making them even more vulnerable since they can’t fly.

Despite being generally harmless, it turns out there’s at least one terrifying thing that chickens do — they sneeze.

In this video, you will see a chicken sneeze for maybe the first time in your life, and you’ll never be the same.

You’d think a chicken would have a little kitten sneeze or some sort of cute chirruping sound. That is not the case. To best describe it, think of a high-pitched dad sneeze with a little something added for that extra dad-joke (because dad’s can’t help themselves).

This video was first posted on YouTube in 2012, but it has once again been making the viral-like rounds on the internet. To get right to the build up and sneeze, skip forward to the 30-second mark.
