WASHINGTON (AP) — The Rev. Billy Graham's daughter, evangelist Anne Graham Lotz, has been named to head the task force that organizes the National Day of Prayer.

Shirley Dobson, who has chaired the annual event for the last 25 years, announced her successor at Thursday's National Day of Prayer observance on Capitol Hill. The wife of Christian broadcaster James Dobson said Billy Graham has called his daughter Anne "the best preacher in the family."

Lotz said she has lately felt "burdened" to urge Americans to pray for their nation.

She said the U.S. is in turmoil and confusion because Americans are "missing God."
