Utes announce 2013 football schedule

Posted Jan 10th - 1:13pm by Mike Grant

SALT LAKE CITY — The Pac-12 conference released the 2013 football schedule and there are a few storylines that immediately come to mind.

The Utes have seven home games beginning with their first three games against Utah State (8/29), Weber State (9/7), and opening the Pac-12 slate against Oregon State (9/14) before they leave Rice-Eccles Stadium.

The next storyline sounds a little SEC-like as the Utes will not even leave the state of Utah until midway through October. On the 19th they finally leave to head down to Tucson to play the Wildcats. Utah will play at BYU on September 21st in Provo followed by their first bye week of the 2013 season.

Kick returner Reggie Dunn has been named to two All-American first-teams, one by CBSSports.com and the other by Athlon Sports. Dunn had four 100-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns, an NCAA record.

Crimson Corner: How I remember Rick Majerus

Posted Dec 3rd - 12:20pm by Mike Grant

My earliest memories of Utah basketball are of watching guys like Mitch Smith, Manny Hendrix, Jimmy Madison, Gale Gondrezick, and Kelvin Upshaw. I don't remember a ton from those years but I always wanted to go see MY Utes up at the Special Events Center. I do remember Lynn Archibald being the Head Coach, but not much else.

Then everything changed.

Night with the Runnin' Utes

Posted Oct 25th - 12:37am by Mike Grant

SALT LAKE CITY — The Night with the Runnin' Utes is an annual thing that I always like to attend. I find it a sort of a rebirth, something that the Utes need most right now. And Wednesday night in the Huntsman Center, an entirely new cast of Utah basketball was born.

The Utes are getting a much needed new start after the worst season in school history, but let's be honest, they didn't belong. Larry Krystkowiak needed a new bunch to build with and from what I saw Wednesday night, that might be possible.

From the first possession the freshman Jordan Loveridge was a player teammates were looking for to take the shot, to put them on his back and carry them.

Crimson Corner: Future Ute Conner Manning leads team to impressive victory

Posted Oct 16th - 2:43pm by Robert Jackson

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. — While the football team may have lost this past weekend to UCLA, the Utah coaching staff was able to witness an incredible comeback highlighted by future Ute Conner Manning.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound quarterback lead the El Toro Chargers to a 41-31 come-from-behind win over nationally ranked Tesoro last Friday. And with the Utes just 70 miles north in Pasadena preparing to face the Bruins, head coach Kyle Whittingham and receivers coach Aaron Roderick were able to witness Manning throwing for 281 yards and four touchdowns.

While the quarterback's numbers were great, it may have been a catch that happened right in front of his future coaches that impressed them the most. Trailing 31-27, Manning handed the ball off to teammate Jacob Furnari, who ran to the right before throwing into the end zone to a wide open Manning, his first ever receiving touchdown.
