OGDEN — Weber State basketball is underway.
The Wildcats, who are defending Big Sky champions, opened the defense of their crown with an exhibition game against St. Katherine College, a Southern California institution with 85 enrolled students.
Weber easily rolled to a victory, beating the Firebirds 80-57 at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
The Wildcats have one more exhibition game- a game against Western State Saturday.
The Wildcats took an early 10-2 lead, keying on returning starters Jeremy Senglin and Joel Bolomboy. St. Katherine cut the lead down to five points late in the half, but Weber climbed to a 43-27 halftime lead.
St. Katherine was unable to match up in the second half, with one of its primary defenders fouling out. Weber State outscored the Firebirds 37-30 in the second half.
The Wildcats shot 49 percent for the game and hit four 3-pointers. Senglin, a sophomore guard, led all scorers with 14 points.
Weber’s next exhibition is against Western State, a Division II program, next Saturday. The Wildcats open the regular season at Utah State on Nov. 14.
