DALLAS (AP) — Matt Davis passed for 171 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 125 yards and two more scores on Saturday night to lead SMU past North Texas 31-13.

Xavier Jones had 94 yards on 13 carries and Courtland Sutton had 65 yards receiving and a touchdown for SMU (1-1).

Antoinne Jimmerson's 25-yard touchdown run capped a nine-play, 75-yard drive that gave North Texas (0-1) a 13-10 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Davis connected with Jeremiah Gaines on an 8-yard touchdown pass with 14:15 remaining to give the Mustangs a four-point lead.

On the ensuing drive, SMU's Jonathan Yenga recovered a fumble forced by Andrew McCleneghen and, four plays later, Davis scored on a 50-yard run to make it 24-13.

North Texas then went three-and-out and a 14-yard touchdown run by Davis capped an eight-play, 62-yard drive nearly five minutes later.

North Texas had just 240 total yards and committed four turnovers.
