SALT LAKE CITY — Prices at the pump are on the rise this month along the Wasatch Front.
The cost for gasoline in Salt Lake City climbed just over 3 cents in the past week — to an average of $3.50 per gallon, according to gasoline price website SaltLakeGasPrices.com.
Nationally, prices at the pump increased about 6 cents to $3.67 per gallon, on average.
Including the recent change in gas prices in Salt Lake City, prices were 64.5 cents per gallon higher than the same time a year ago and 1.6 cents per gallon higher than one month ago. The national average stands at 98 cents per gallon higher than the same period last year.
"Gasoline prices continue to slowly advance, but with major storms impeding the activity of refineries, it shouldn't come as a shock," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst. "We may see additional impacts with tropical storm Lee as many oil platforms have already ceased production, and there may be refineries that shut due to intense rain."
DeHaan added that "the good news is" gasoline prices could begin to fall later this month as producers switch to cheaper winter gasoline and as the peak of the hurricane season passes.
