SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials say almost 10,000 northern Utah homes and businesses lost power Monday morning because someone shot a utility pole.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Paul Murphy says the shooting of a pole in the Park City area likely occurred some time ago but wet weather on Monday allowed moisture to get inside the pole and disrupted electrical service around 2 a.m.

Murphy did not have details about how many times the pole was shot but says the company reported it as vandalism to local law enforcement.

Those without power in the Park City and Heber City areas had it restored by 9 a.m.

Murphy says nearly 3,000 other people were without in South Jordan and West Jordan.

Officials don't yet know the cause of that outage and had not restored power by Monday afternoon.
