JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois man whose pregnant wife and three children were killed in a car crash is suing a man charged in the accident.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports Edward Schmidt filed a wrongful death lawsuit Jan. 12 against 25-year-old Sean B. Woulfe of Beecher. The crash in July killed 29-year-old Lindsey Schmidt and her 6-year-old, 4-year-old and 1-year-old sons. Edward Schmidt is seeking at least $50,000 in damages for each of the deaths.

Woulfe has pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide charges. Prosecutors say he was speeding and went through a stop sign before the crash in Beecher, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) south of Chicago.

Woulfe's attorney declined comment on the lawsuit, citing a court order barring prosecutors and defense attorneys from talking to reporters about the case.
