The Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce with its Downtown Rising initiative has provided the community with an innovative, yet realistic vision for the future of Utah's capital city.

If the chamber's vision is realized, downtown Salt Lake City will eventually develop a more functional transportation network, accentuated by strategically developed green spaces. There'll be specific districts that highlight the distinctive nature of various neighborhoods. A World Trade Center and a new Performing Arts Center will be constructed. Many more people will reside downtown in stunning residential complexes. They'll enjoy new amenities such as a public market and a sports and fitness center.

KSL compliments the many business and community leaders and technical experts who helped create this new blueprint for the city's future. It has been an exhaustive, collaborative process. And while their ideas are not cast in stone, they're definitely worth considering.

A similar planning effort some 40 years ago, led to the development of such established venues as the Salt Palace Convention Center, Abravanel Hall and Main Street Plaza. Even TRAX!

Such periodic undertakings are good for communities that desire to remain vibrant. It is far better to plan for the future than to let growth occur haphazardly as the decades fly by.
