(KSL News) Tonight the Utah Department of Transportation is holding an open house to discuss alternatives to a proposed six-lane highway called Mountain View Corridor.

The highway would connect I-80 west of the Salt Lake airport to I-15 in Pleasant Grove.

If the highway is constructed, UDOT says it might have to relocate almost 200 homes or cut through government protected wetlands. A group called Citizens Organized for Smarter Transportation opposes the highway and believe there is a more environmentally friendly approach.

The Deseret Morning News reports the group suggests tree-lined boulevards and arterial connections that require less speed from drivers.
