(KSL News) -- The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs rallied Vets this morning at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Convention.

Secretary James Nicholson thanked all of the men and women who have fought for our country. He spoke about health care services and benefits programs for America's 25 million Veterans.

But before he addressed the convention, Secretary Nicholson stopped by our KSL studios. He commented on yesterday's protests while President Bush was in town to speak at the convention.

James Nicholson/Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs "They are entitled to do that - that's why we're fighting for our freedom and trying to maintain our way of life so that people can have that right of descent."

Before heading the Department of Veterans Affairs, Nicholson served as the U-S Ambassador to the Holy See in Rome. He was knighted by Pope John Paul the Second for his work representing the US to the Vatican.
