It has been a month since the tragedy at Trolley Square.
Foremost, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who lost loved ones and the others who continue to heal from their wounds. No amount of consolation, though, can adequately compensate for the physical pain and the emotional anguish they are experiencing as victims of such a senseless crime.
We've been stirred by the many heroic stories told by dozens more who survived the terrifying night. The recently released 911 calls remind us of the vital and steadying role played by dispatchers in times of crisis. And we continue to salute the emergency responders who reacted so professionally. We support those investigators who continue to seek answers to what happened.
It has been inspiring to see the way the community has rallied to support the merchants at Trolley Square.
And from a distant land, the images of a funeral for the deranged young man who committed the awful crime remind us that lives well beyond our borders were dramatically affected by what happened.
Even a month later a motive for the crime is elusive. It's likely we'll never know for sure why it happened. What is certain, though, is that life goes on and our community is indeed healing.
