(KSL News) -- A hiker who'd been missing in southern Utah and turned up in Australia is now back in the United States. Bryan Butas is in Ohio, undergoing psychiatric treatment.
Friends reported Butas missing on August 1st after they found his abandonned car in the Pine Valley Mountain campground outside of Leeds. Washington County authorities launched a massive search.
Eventually, their investigation led them to Butas in Australia. They say he ditched his car in Utah, and then flew to Australia.
Authorities say Butas could be charged for the cost of the search to find him, which is around 20-thousand dollars.
