Sandra Yi ReportingA University of Utah student running for class president decided to turn his campaign party into a fundraising event. It's going on right now at Trolley Square.
Tonight's fundraiser kicks off several events that are scheduled throughout the next week. The next one is coming up on Friday: The Hard Rock Cafe will host a "We Love Trolley Square" benefit night of music. There is a $10 cover charge, but all proceeds will go to the Trolley Square Memorial Account.
Then, on Saturday, there are several free events at Trolley Square, including music performances and a silent auction.
Tonight's event goes until midnight at Trolley Square, and everyone is invited. The money raised will be given to the families directly affected.
I talked to Vickie Walker tonight. Her husband, Jeffrey, was killed and her son, A.J., was injured during Sulejman Talovic's rampage. A.J. is home from the hospital. His mother wanted to thank everyone for their kindness.
She told me that earlier tonight she attended Kirsten Hinckley's viewing. Hinckley was shot and killed while shopping for cards with her mother, Carolyn Tuft, who was just released from the hospital.
Vickie told me she doesn't know Kirsten's family, but says she wanted to go to the viewing and let them know that she cared. Kirsten Hinckley's funeral is tomorrow.
