(KSL News) -- A local hero was honored tonight for his role in stopping a recent disaster.

"At this time we'd like to recognize Ogden City police officer Ken Hammond for his heroics at the recent Trolley Square shootings."

Officer Honored for Action in Trolley Square Shootings

Officer Ken Hammond and his wife received a standing ovation at the Big Sky Tournament at Weber State tonight.

Officer Hammond was off duty at Trolley Square, on a Valentine's date with his wife, when he heard gunshots and went after the 18-year-old gunman.
