WEST VALLEY CITY -- A man was shot by a West Valley Police officer Wednesday afternoon. It happened at a Burger King restaurant near 3500 South and Redwood Road.

Officers said they had suspicions of a drug deal taking place in the parking lot. Police watched as two cars pulled up alongside each other.

When officers walked up to confront one driver, a witness says that driver tried to run them over.

"He wouldn't stop," the witness said. "He went forward. He hit one of the other cops, and that's when they opened fire on him."

One officer was knocked to the ground. He was taken to the hospital but is reported to be in good condition.

Other people involved tried to leave the scene; officers caught up with everyone and are questioning them.
