As has been suggested by signs on game day in Sun Devil Stadium and newspaper headlines afterward, we’ll never really know how good Utah’s superb football team was. Blame it on the mess known as the BCS.

Yes, the Utes went undefeated. Throughout the season they won with ease. No game, really, was close. Yet, for all of their stunning accomplishments, they were denied the opportunity to actually compete for a national championship because of an elite system established by a few conferences and their presidents who arrogantly think they’re a cut above the rest. It’s time for the national championship for collegiate football to be settled on the playing field, not through a convoluted system of polls and computer rankings!

KSL agrees with the Associated Press, which recently withdrew its permission for the BCS to use the AP poll in its rankings – the system lacks honesty and integrity. So as Ute fans continue to bask in the glory of an electrifying Bowl Championship Series win, let the BCS defenders squirm in their egotistical efforts to justify the illogical monster they’ve created.

Utah went 12 and 0. Unbeaten! Perfect! A most memorable moment for all Utahns! Still, it would have been nice to know what more they could have accomplished had they not been denied the opportunity.
