KSL congratulates Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. as he assumes leadership of the State of Utah on this day of inauguration. And we say, enjoy every minute of the festivities, including the adulation of the many politicians, bureaucrats and lobbyists around you because it likely won’t last.
Political honeymoons, after all, can be painfully brief. Ahead, for the new governor, are challenges of enormous proportions. Utah is growing by leaps and bounds. Where will hundreds of thousands of new citizens live? How will they get around? What kind of education system will best prepare the rising generation for life? Decisions about water resources, wilderness and the environment loom large.
And the biggest question of all, how best to allocate taxpayer dollars in order to pay for the essential services of government?
As all politicians do, candidate Huntsman put forth his plans during a vigorous and quite frankly, refreshingly cordial campaign. He traversed the state and mingled with citizens at every level. He convinced a majority of voters his approach to governance would be best. Now comes the time to deliver.
As the state’s 16th Governor, he takes office during an invigorating and promising period in Utah history. Along with his many constituents, KSL wishes him well, for we realize the far-reaching impact his decisions will have on all of us.
