Each Christmas brings a reminder of the message proclaimed two-thousand years ago by those who heralded the birth of the Babe in Bethlehem.
“Peace on earth, good will toward men,” they hopefully declared!
Yet peace among nations, as it has for most of human history, remains elusive.
Again this year we hear more of insurgents and bombings and death than we do of inspiring and sustaining acts of goodwill. Indeed, war dominates the news. Mayhem and turmoil, it seems, are always in our view.
Yet, beyond the headlines can be found innumerable acts of goodness and peaceful generosity that bring a sense of comforting balance to a world seemingly immersed in conflict.
-A neighbor extends a helping hand or shares bit of holiday cheer through a visit, a baked good or a modest remembrance.
-A youth group gathers resources and adopts a needy family to assist as “subs for Santa.”
-A broader community accepts the challenge to share its bounteous means by restocking dwindling food bank supplies.
The concept of universal peace on earth may for now extend beyond humanity’s collective reach. Yet pockets of peace expressed through selfless acts of good will abound everywhere. For that, including all that you our viewers and listeners do to help, KSL is grateful this Christmas.
May you have a Merry Christmas!
