Mike Weir may be Canada’s current favorite son, but Utahns are thrilled to claim him, too.

The Ontario native, but full-time resident of Draper solidified his credentials as one of the world’s best golfers with his recent electrifying victory at The Masters. To win a major championship is one of golf’s most prestigious accomplishments.

KSL joins in the chorus of congratulations!

Weir not only wears the coveted "Green Jacket," but with $3.2 million in earnings this year, he also stands atop the golf world as the current leading money winner. The Masters was his third victory of the year. In the view of some analysts, the Brigham Young University graduate is poised to be identified among golf’s superstars.

Not bad for a kid from the snowy climes of Canada who enjoyed playing hockey, but preferred hitting golf balls left-handed into a net in the family garage during the winter. Even by living in Utah he sacrifices some of the benefits of year-round outdoor access to the driving range. Then again, he can often be found on nearby ski slopes enjoying the seasonal benefits of his adopted home.

"Weirsy," as he is affectionately called on tour, is indeed a credit to his homeland, and an asset to the State of Utah. It is exciting to think that one of golf’s brightest stars is one of our own.
