In a recent editorial, KSL reaffirmed our view that lawmakers ought to move forward with legislation to keep hotter radioactive waste, the so-called Class B and C waste, from being dumped in Utah.

Envirocare, the company seeking to accept and store the material, offers another viewpoint. The firm’s president and CEO, Dwayne Nielson writes:

" . . .Utah’s Division of Radiation Control (has) conducted an exhaustive evaluation of our application to store and dispose of Class B and C waste, and concluded that we can safely accept and store B and C materials. Despite this fact, KSL parroted the declarations of (Envirocare’s opponents) in opining, ‘Class B and C waste should not be allowed into the state for perpetual storage!’ Rather than supplying a reason for this position, KSL offered an exclamation point.

I cannot in good conscience allow the KSL audience to be told that Envirocare provides anything but the highest quality, safest environmental services in the country. We’re proud of our contribution in reclaiming our country’s land and water resources. Envirocare encourages lawmakers to act now to learn the facts about B and C low-level radioactive waste so that they can make policy decisions based on facts. If the arguments against B and C were so compelling, there would be no need for half-truths, distortions or exclamation points."
