(Salt Lake City, KSL News) -- The pilot of a small plane was injured when his plane crashed this morning near Spanish Fork.

Luckily the plane did not catch on fire.

It could have been much worse. The pilot suffered neck injuries and lacerations. He was transported to the hospital.

The single engine plane went down near Highway 147 -- that's about 1300 East and 6400 South in Spanish Fork -- at about 9:45 this morning.

The plane crashed in a field and landed upside down, but was not too badly damaged.

The area where the plane crashed is in line with the approach and about three miles from the Spanish Fork Airport, so it is likely the pilot was trying to land there.

Emergency crews who responded said there were two people on board the plane when it went down.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.

No names have been released yet, but crews on the scene say the injuries to either person are probably not serious.
