(KSL News) A Syracuse woman made a major sacrifice for a family member. For this service, her sister wanted to give her a High 5.
Anne-Marie Bigelow says her sister, Schillene Bigelow, does the typical things to help family members, like babysitting and helping with housework.
But last year Schillene's husband's aunt was diagnosed with kidney failure. Schillene ended up being a perfect match, so she donated one of her kidneys to the aunt.
Anne-Marie Bigelow, nominated sister: "Schillene, you've been an inspiration to me since I came into the family 14 years ago. You've always been there to help support us with babysitting, cleaning homes, meals or anything else. Last year you not only volunteered but were so excited to be a match ... to donate a kidney. I just figured you deserved a High 5."
Coco Warner, Eyewitness News: "This kind of puts you on the spot, but what are you thinking?"
Schillene Bigelow: "You guys are nuts! That's so sweet. I joined a wonderful family. They treat me as if I've always belonged in their family. They never see me as different with my accent and jokes I don't get. They have always loved me and made me feel part of them. It was no sacrifice at all."
