But it also does a lot for the economy of Park City... with stars and visitors spending a lot of cash in the resort community.
Stores and restaurants along main street are packed tonight....which, of course, is exactly what local owners are counting on.
What they can't count, or predict...is how many stars..will show up when...and where.
Today on the street, so people watchers got a surprise.
Dustin Hoffman on this Park City perch...one more sign...Sundance has arrived with it's usual serendipity.
Last night, Robert Downey Junior winked at the crowd as he mugged with co-star Robin Wright Penn... Al Pacino not only posed..he pumped his movie, "People I Know", in which he plays a New York publicist caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Al Pacino: "IT'S A FILM THAT IS, AGAIN, MADE IN A PERSONAL WAY, BY THE FILMMAKER, I THINK IT'S SOMETHING THAT CAME FROM HIS NEED TO TELL THIS PARTICULAR STORY WITHOUT ANY OTHER REASON THAN HIS DESIRE TO SPEAK THROUGH THIS FILM, SO I THINK THAT'S WHAT THIS PLAY STANDS FOR, SO I FEEL IT BELONGS HERE.
