(Salt Lake City, KSL News) -- A 78-year-old Ogden man is dead after trying to escape his burning house this morning.

At about 4 a.m., neigbors called 911 after seeing smoke pouring from the house.

When fire crews arrived, they found the man on the kitchen floor and the fire burning in the basement.

They say it appears he was trying to get out of the house. There was no indication of foul play, although an exact cause of death has not been determined.

His name has not been released, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
