(Salt Lake City- KSL TV) A man wanted for the 1999 attempted murder of an Orem police officer has been arrested in California.

Reinhold Chris Neumann was arrested Sunday for driving a stolen car.

Neumann was wanted in Utah for almost killing officer Garrett Smit by running him over while trying to flee from police.

In November 1999, Officer Smit said, "I recall him actually steering toward me, so he's making an attempt to actually run me down."

Neumann's car was later found burned out near Nephi.

Police say that he has altered his appearence with cosmetic surgery -- but they have postively identified Neumann with DNA evidence.

Neumann also will be facing charges in California. He has a record of criminal activity in both Utah and Idaho.
