(KSL News) A Senate committee has approved a measure postponing Utah's smoking ban in meeting places of fraternal organizations.

Under the bill, fraternal groups like the Veterans of Foreign Wars wouldn't have to be smoke-free until 2009. That's the same year private clubs will be required to ban smoking.

The bill's sponsor says he's NOT trying to promote smoking, but several groups have lost revenue since smoking was banned in their lodges and posts last year.
