(Salt Lake City-AP) -- An extension to Salt Lake City's light rail line is moving toward completion ahead of schedule.

Work on a one-point-five mile TRAX extension from the University of Utah to University hospital began just last spring. It wasn't scheduled for completion until November of 2004. But now, project planners say they'll likely be done by the end of September -- more than a year ahead of schedule.

Mild weather this winter has helped the work along. There were also few problems to be found with underground sewer and water lines on the University campus.

Light rail has been a big success in the Salt Lake area, with ridership exceeding expectations on the two TRAX lines.
