SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah's population is estimated to have grown by more than 57,000 people between 2008 and 2009.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates released Wednesday show that Utah's population grew from nearly 2.73 million on July 1, 2008 to more than 2.78 million on July 1 of this year.

The state's population grew 2.1 percent. That puts it second behind Wyoming, which had the largest percentage growth at 2.12 percent, bringing that state's population to 544,270.

Texas ranked third with 1.97 percent population growth, to 24.8 million people. Texas also ranked first in the number of people gained, 478,000.

Next year the official census population counts will take place.
