LEHI, Utah (AP) -- A man who was shot by a former police officer during a wild car chase has filed a lawsuit against an insurance company and the late gunman's estate.

The lawsuit is seeking compensation for medical costs.

Craig Trimble was shot in the leg and stomach by Art Henderson --- who also crashed his pickup truck into the victim's car in January 2006. He later committed suicide in jail while he was charged with attempted murder.

Henderson had no insurance. That's why Trimble is suing his own insurer --- California Casualty --- for help, a case that raises some unique issues.

Trimble's attorney says the lawsuit was filed last month to preserve his client's rights before the one-year anniversary of the shooting.
