(KSL TV) A man accused of trying to extort money from the family of Elizabeth Smart by posing as her kidnapper will be in court today.
Walter Kenneth Holloway will make his initial appearance in a Salt Lake courtroom after being indicted with interstate extortion and threatening communications.
Holloway is accused of sending several e-mails to the Smart family from his home in South Carolina -- including one demanding $3 million and saying, "Tell Ed he can have Elizabeth back as soon as I get the ransom."
Ed and Lois Smart say Halloway's actions were "beyond cruel."
