PAGE, Ariz. (AP) -- A Colorado man died in a cliff jumping accident at Lake Powell, National Park Service officials said.

Witnesses called rangers on Thursday night, saying that Toby Jack Thompson, appeared to have problems as he jumped into the lake from a 45-foot cliff.

He had a pulse when he was removed from the water but had quit breathing by the time rangers reached him, said Char Obergh, spokeswoman for the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Obergh said the cause of death will have to be determined by an autopsy.

She declined to release Thompson's age or hometown.
