Keith McCord reportingTrying to keep a lush green lawn is kind of difficult right now. With the way-above-normal temperatures, and conservation efforts, yards are struggling.

It takes a lot of work--and water-- to keep yards green. And this summer, that's tough!

There's nothing better than a perfectly manicured, dark green yard. You know, the type of lawn that looks like a country club.

These days though, a lot of us have to settle for yards that have brown, with dry patches.

Solution? Enter Joe Christensen. He's *spraying* his lawn green! Kind of like coloring your hair!

Joe Christensen Root Systems Lawn Care: "IT'S LIKE DYING YOUR ROOTS. EVENTUALLY, IT WILL GROW OUT, BUT YOU KNOW THE OBJECTIVE IS TO CONTROL YOUR WATER, AND CONTROL YOUR FERTILIZATION."

Joe runs a lawn fertilization business. He says, the idea here is simple: if the lawn looks nice and green, you won't water it as much. Therefore it won't grow as fast. You won't mow as often.

This organic coloring lasts 10-14 weeks!

Joe Christensen Root Systems Lawn Care: "IT'S NON-TOXIC. ONCE IT'S DRY, IT WON'T STAIN OR FADE. "

If you don't want a dyed or spray-painted lawn, you can always rip it out, and put in something synthetic. No painting, no watering... ever!"

It's called "Astrolawn". Rolls out just like carpet.

Sport Court, a company that sells backyard recreational equipment has a huge demonstration area for its products. The company recently took out all the sod, and replaced it.

Annika Lundmark, Sport Court Mktg. Dir.:"WELL WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE SOLUTION FOR WATER SAVINGS CONSIDERING THE DROUGHT THESE DAYS... AS WELL AS SAVING IN LABOR AND MAINTENENCE."

Brent Simpson, who installed the Sport Court lawn says he originally thought most of his sales would be for businesses. But, he doing a lot more homes now!

Brent Simpson AstroLawn Dealer: "I'VE DONE MORE RESIDENTIAL... HOMEOWNERS, THEY'RE REALLY BEHIND THE WATER SAVINGS AND MAINTENCE SAVINGS."

Costs? The spray-stuff costs 10-20 cents a square foot. And lasts 3 to 4 months. The AstroLawn-- will cost a few thousand, depending on how big an area... but it'll last 15-20 years.
