(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The 20th Utah Pride Day drew more than 30 thousand gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals and supportive straight people to downtown Salt Lake City during the weekend.
Jerry Rapier, Pride event coordinator, says a thousand people participated in Sunday's parade. Attendance for the post-parade festivities with food booths, merchants, entertainment and children's activities exceeded last year's 30 thousand participants.
About a dozen evangelical preachers shouted at the parade participants.
Mayor Rocky Anderson opened the festivity, carrying an American flag on horseback.
He noted the "vast community support" for gays and lesbians evidenced by the rainbow flag flying in front of the City-County Building.
