Jill Atwood reporting A Salt Lake City woman woke up this morning to find her two little girls missing, apparantly taken from their beds overnight. Police say the children's father is behind the kidnapping.
The couple separated a few weeks ago and since then neighbors say things have gotten ugly.
The two little girls were found safe. Police caught up with them in American Fork earlier this afternoon.
A long day for a young mother inside this Salt Lake City home. Counselors provide support as police do their best to track down a kidnapper. That kidnapper turned out to be 32 year old Chad Morris.
Lt. Rusty Isacson/Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "THERE HAS BEEN A PAST HISTORY OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE..THERE'S BEEN PREVIOUS PROTECTIVE ORDER PUT AGAINST CHAD BY HIS WIFE CHRISTINE"
In fact, there was supposed to be another protective order served last night, but police aren't sure that ever happened. The big concern was for the children's safety because police say Morris had a history of drug abuse.
"POLICE ARE PRETTY CONFIDENT IT WAS THE CHILDREN'S FATHER FOR A FEW DIFFERENT REASONS..FIRST HE KNEW EXACTLY WHERE THE CHILDREN WERE SLEEPING, THE DOGS NEVER BARKED ONCE, AND HE WENT FOR PERSONAL ITEMS LIKE COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND CD'S."
Morris was finally picked up in American Fork thanks to a Utah County Sheriff's deputy with his eyes peeled. The two girls are on their way home, Chad Morris is on his way to jail for burglary, theft and possibly kidnapping charges.
