SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Eight people will share the $250,000 reward offered in the Elizabeth Smart case, the Salt Lake City Mayor's office announced Wednesday.
After an investigation of information that led to the girl's safe return March 12, Mayor Rocky Anderson and Police Chief Rick Dinse concluded that the eight would split the reward in equal shares of $31,250.
The money is being distributed this week. Among the recipients are Alvin and Anita Dickerson, who called police in Sandy when they recognized Brian David Mitchell, Elizabeth's alleged kidnapper.
Anderson spokesman Josh Ewing declined to name the other recipients.
"The six people who asked for anonymity, we are respecting that confidentiality," he said.
The Deseret Morning News reported Wednesday that Rudy and Nancy Montoya, who also called police when they saw Mitchell with two women in Sandy, also received reward money. Ewing refused to confirm the report.
