SALT LAKE CITY (KSL News / AP) -- A police call to a domestic dispute ended with a high-speed chase, shots fired, one person dead, and one person in the hospital Friday evening.

A Summit County Sheriff's deputy and a wildlife resources officer were called to an area near Kamas early Friday night to check out the report of a fight. The report said guns were being fired, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Dan Rosenhan.

The officers saw the suspect's vehicle and gave chase, Rosenhan said.

With the assistance of a Highway Patrol trooper, the car was stopped near the Jordanelle Reservoir on State Road 248 and more shots were fired inside the car, Rosenhan said.

At this point, those in the car "threatened" the officers and the officers shot at the passengers, Rosenhan said. A man and woman in the car were injured. He was taken by ambulance to the University of Utah Hospital, the woman was flown to the hospital in a medical helicopter, where she later died.

A third person in the car, the driver, was not injured, Rosenhan said.

The identities of those in the car were not released.

No other information was immediately available Friday night, Rosenhan said.
