Utah State Posts 58-50 Win Vs. Hawai'i

LOGAN, Utah - It wasn't pretty, but Utah State won its fourth straight game as the Aggies pulled out a 58-50 win against Hawai'I in men's basketball action here Wednesday night. The Aggies improved to 19-7 overall and 8-4 in the WAC, while the visitors fell to 14-12 and 5-8.

USU committed 25 turnovers, but out-rebounded Hawai'I 42-27 to win the low-scoring game. For the second home game in a row, USU held a high scoring opponent to well below its average as Hawai'I entered the game averaging 71.7 points per contest, but scored 21 points below their average. On Feb. 5, USU limited New Mexico State to 18 points below its average.

Three Aggies all finished one rebound shy of double-doubles as Stephen DuCharme had 15 points and nine rebounds, Jaycee Carroll scored 11 points to go along with nine boards and Chris Session had 10 and nine.

Hawai'I was led by Matt Jojeski, who scored 16 and Ahmet Guyeye, who recorded 15 points. Riley Luettgerodt came off the bench to score 11 for the Warriors.

The close first half saw USU pull away a little bit at the end as the Aggies took a 27-22 halftime lead. After a Warrior run to start the second half, USU went on its own 10-3 run, which was capped by a Durrall Peterson three-pointer and a Session dunk and gave the home team a 41-31 advantage.

UH fought back to pull within 46-43 at the 6:12 mark, but DuCharme and Session each drew fouls on made baskets and scored on consecutive three-point plays to put the Aggies back up 52-43.

Hawai'I pulled within 54-50, but the Aggies finished the game's scoring en route to its 14th straight homecourt victory dating back to last season.

USU shot just 43.8 percent from the field, but limited the visitors to just 35.7 percent, including a two of 18 mark from three-point range. The Aggies were once again solid at the free throw line converting 13 of 16 free pitches.

Utah State will head to Tulsa, Okla. to meet Oral Roberts in an ESPN Bracket Buster game on Saturday. Tipoff for the game, which will be televised on ESNPU, is at 5 p.m. mountain.
