Some of Utah's top lawmakers are already sending their congratulations to Governor Leavitt.

Statement from Sen. Orrin Hatch on Leavitt's EPA nomination: "This is a win for Utah, and a win for the nation... I commend Governor Leavitt for stepping up and accepting the President's call to steer the EPA through the challenging, yet rewarding years ahead."

In a statement, Congressman Chris Cannon congratulated the governor. He said, "Administering the EPA is a huge task and I wish the Governor the best as he takes it on."

Senator Hatch also expressed enthusiasm for Utah Lieutenant Governor Olene Walker who is expected to take over as governor.

Utahn Pat Shea also weighed in on today's announcement about Governor Leavitt. Shea participated in the Democratic primaries for Governor during Leavitt's term and also served in the nation's capitol as the Director of the Bureau of Land Management.

As a former Washington insider, Shea has some advice for the Governor. "Find good schools for your children. Make sure they understand that even though you won't be around much, you're still their father. And really try to think what's the best public policy that you'll be administering."

Shea also said that despite their political differences, he thinks Governor Leavitt will do a good job.
