Keith McCord ReportingHappy Birthday to Stew Campbell! Today, he is 100!
Who is Stew Campbell? Well, he's a regular at the Murray Arts Center. And, the folks there threw a big bash for him this weekend.
They were stepping, sliding, twirling, going cheek to cheek the Murray Arts Center this weekend. On the wall were balloons fashioned into the numbers 100! All for one man-- Stew Campbell. He's no stranger at the arts center, he dances there regularly. He's been dancing since, well, way back!
Stew Campbell: "I love to dance. My family of four sisters and a brother, we were brought up with a wind up victrola. and we used to dance together even as children."
This party was called the "Stew Campbell 100th Birthday Extravaganza" complete with balloons, cake, and a couple of live bands. Family and friends danced away the night in Stew's honor.
Jeff Campbell, Stew's Son: "It's incredible. I've never known anybody who's 100-years old. It turns out to be my father. I find that amazing."
It's also kind of amazing to think about all the things Stew has experienced during the past century. Even he's amazed.
Stew Campbell: "My goodness, yes. Beyond any fantasy that I might ever have had."
Think about it, the year he was born, the Wright brothers made their famous flight. Ford motor company produced their first car! In 1903 life expectancy was 47 years, he certainly beat that. The average wage was 22-cents an hour, and the population of Las Vegas was 30. And, 18 U.S. presidents have held office during his lifetime.
Stew Campbell's family marvels at his health -- eyesight is good; his hearing is still good.
Judy Campbell-Fuchs: “I think he's doing great. 105 wouldn't surprise me! He lives alone. He drives, not with me in the car,--laugh-- but he drives. He cooks for himself. We don't take care of him."
No need to, Stew Campbell is still having the time of his life, and a good, long life it is!
By the way, Stew says he has a girlfriend. She's 90.
