Sam Penrod Reporting People in South Jordan are mourning with the Walker family, who were caught in the gunfire last night. The family's father was killed in the shooting, and their 16-year-old son remains in the hospital.
It's a sad day here at Bingham High School. The Walker family lives about a mile from here. And today, students came thinking about "AJ" Walker, who is in his junior year here at Bingham High.
Fifty-three-year-old Jeffrey Walker and his 16-year-old son Alan Jeffrey, known by his friends as AJ, were the first two victims shot by the gunman. Jeffrey was killed, and AJ was seriously wounded, although we can tell you his condition is improving today. At the school this morning, counselors were available for students to talk to, although the school principal says many of AJ's friends were just too upset to even come to school today.
Neighbors of the Walkers have been helping out the family today, and they are at University Hospital with AJ, whom doctors have now upgraded to serious condition.
Others have brought flowers to the family's home.
The Walker family will be talking to reporters at University Hospital, and we will hear from them later this evening on Eyewitness News.
A Walker Family fund has been set up, anyone wanting to make donations can do so at any Zions Bank.
